Disclosure or report - what's the difference?
Disclosure
You tell us what happened. This might be because you want support, or because you're not yet sure what you want to do next. Making a disclosure doesn't mean you have to take any further action.
Report
You want us to know what happened and take formal action.
How to report
Online incident form
Share what happened through our secure online form. You can choose to remain anonymous or include your contact details for follow-up.
Murdoch Safe app
Report incidents and contact security through the app, with the option of having a Wellbeing team staff member contact you for follow-up.
What to know before you disclose or report
- We'll reach out to you - Once you get in touch, an experienced member of our Student Wellbeing team will contact you and talk you through the options available. At your first conversation, you won't need to repeat what you've already shared with us.
- You can remain anonymous - You may choose not to share your name or contact details. Keep in mind that the more information you're able to share, the more the university can do to investigate and offer appropriate support.
- You can bring a support person - You can bring someone to any sage of the process.
- Your information is kept confidential - What you share will be kept confidential unless there is a serious risk of harm to you or others, or a policy requirement to share information with relevant university teams. Where possible, staff will be transparent with you about what is shared and why.
- If you make a formal report - We may need to talk through some details to work out what actions we can take. We'll take a trauma-informed approach, only asking for what's necessary, and use a headline approach where possible so you're not repeating distressing information.
Reporting to Police
If a crime has occurred, you can report it directly to police or seek support from the university to do so. Murdoch University can support you through the process and help with safety measures such as restraining orders. If you're unsure about making a police report, speak confidentially with the University Murdoch University Counselling Service.
