Day of on-campus exam
You must bring a physical photographic identification
- Physical photographic identification (ID) such as your Murdoch University Student Card, driver's licence, or passport will be accepted.
- Student with no ID must stay until the end of the exam and return to the Student Central to have your identification verified.
- If your identity cannot be verified, the unit coordinator may decide not to mark your exam.
Items you can bring
- Writing materials: pens, pencils, eraser and ruler (without notes). Only transparent pencil case will be allowed.
- A transparent or plain-coloured water bottle with all labels removed. Bottle must not contain any writing, text or markings.
- An English/foreign language printed dictionary if English is not your first language, without annotations. No annotation allowed means no notes or writing allowed.
- Candidate aids – refer to the exam timetable for permitted aids:
- open book exams: printed textbooks, notes, files
- open book (restricted) exams: limited specific aids
- closed book exams: usually no aids, though some may allow a calculator or pages of notes.
- Headwear worn for religious or cultural purposes only.
Unauthorised items
Items not listed above are considered unauthorised materials and must not be brought into the exam venue. Possession of unauthorised item during the exam will be confiscated by the invigilator and can lead to disciplinary action under the Student Integrity Regulations. Common unauthorised items found on students during exam:
- mobile phones
- laptops, iPads, smartwatches, earphones and other electronic devices
- unauthorised notes
All electronic devices must be switched off and left in your bag with other unauthorised materials before the exam begins.
You must comply with the University’s requirement for exam conduct. ‘Exam Conduct Cards’ may be issued during the exam for inappropriate behaviour. The University treats exam dishonesty with utmost seriousness and any form of exam misconduct may result to disciplinary action under the Student Integrity Regulations. Please ensure you are familiar with these expectations:
- Follow invigilator instructions
Always comply with instructions given by the exam invigilator. Disrespecting or arguing with an invigilator is not acceptable.
- Remain seated and silent
Do not leave your seat without permission. You may not leave the exam venue during the first 30 minutes of working time or in the last 10 minutes of the exam. If you must leave temporarily, you must be accompanied by an invigilator.
- Use only permitted items
Only use Candidate Aids listed on the exam timetable. Remove all unauthorised items and electronic devices.
- Do not share stationery or candidate aids
Sharing items with other students is not permitted. - Complete your details
Ensure your details are completed on the attendance card, exam booklet, and computer answer sheet before exam begins.
- Complete the computer answer sheet - refer to the video guide
If you are required to record your answers on a computer answer sheet, please ensure you fill up the computer answer sheet correctly as shown in the video guide.
- Report misconduct and avoid unfair or dishonest practices
Do not communicate or share answers with other students or leave the venue with exam materials. Report any misconduct you observe.
- Maintain exam etiquette
Avoid disruptive behaviour and ensure a calm, quiet environment throughout the exam. Always respect the integrity of the exam environment.
- Arrive early
You will be admitted to the exam venue approximately 5–15 minutes before the scheduled start time. - Store personal belongings
Campus eExam requires you to use your mobile phone to complete the multi-factor authentication. Once successfully logged in, switch off your mobile phone and put it in your bag. Place all bags and unauthorised items in the designated area before the exam begins. - Place your photo ID on your desk
Accepted IDs include your Murdoch University Student Card, driver’s licence, or passport. - Check the cover of your exam paper
Confirm that you are sitting the correct exam by reviewing the front cover of the paper. Do not start reading the exam paper until instructed.
- Notes during reading time
If all your answers are to be written in an answer booklet, you may make notes on the exam question paper only during reading time. - Raise your hand for assistance
If you have any queries or need to speak to an invigilator, raise your hand and wait for assistance. - No smoking, vaping, or eating
These activities are strictly prohibited in the exam venue.
- When the exam invigilator announces the end of exam:
- Stop writing immediately and put your pen down.
- Remain seated and silent.
- Do not leave your seat until the exam invigilator releases you.
- Before you leave, check:
- you did not take any exam materials with you by accident.
- you have all your personal belongings.
Evacuation during exams
If the fire alarm is activated during your exam, leave all exam materials and your bag in the venue and follow the exam invigilators' instructions and remain silent.
Arriving late
If you arrive up to 30 minutes into the exam working time, you can still sit the exam but won't be given any extra working time.
If you arrive more than 30 minutes into the exam working time, you cannot be admitted to the exam and should go to the Student Central immediately for advice.
