Support for Learning Academics are experienced academics who can help you develop the skills you need for university study, including:

  • understanding and analysing assignment questions
  • using evidence, referencing and paraphrasing correctly
  • communicating ideas clearly and logically in academic writing
  • strengthening numeracy and problem-solving skills
  • using AI ethically and effectively

Consultation times

Book a one-on-one 45-minute consultation

Consultations are available between 9:00 am and 4:45 pm from Monday to Friday.  

Our Support for Learning Academics can meet you in person or via Microsoft Teams.

Please note that consultation times may vary throughout the semester.

Choose one of the following options:

  • Speak with a Peer Academic Coach (PAC) online or in person at a myAdvice location.  They can help identify the additional support you may need and arrange a consultation on your behalf.
  • Email supportforlearning@murdoch.edu.au to request a consultation.
  • Call 9360-2142 and our team will arrange a consultation for you.

My career has included roles as a university associate lecturer and learning advisor, as well as a journalist, demonstrating my ability to engage with diverse audiences. My knowledge of contemporary pedagogical approaches and dedication to student-cantered learning have consistently led to high levels of student satisfaction and achievement. Additionally, my collaborative efforts with various stakeholders and my sensitivity to cultural diversity show my adaptability and commitment to fostering inclusive educational environments.

image of Dr Phil ArenaMy association with Murdoch University spans more than three decades, during which I have gained extensive teaching and research experience. I have taught across a range of disciplines and am an awarded educator and functional morphologist, with published research on the biology, health and welfare of captive reptiles including rattlesnakes, marine turtles and crocodiles. My career has also included roles in ecotourism, outreach and science education. I have worked with students of most ages and have a lifelong passion for science and scientific communication. My aims are simple – to encourage and inspire students to learn.

Image of Ms Ann RansonI started my journey at Murdoch as an international student to pursue postgraduate studies in Education. My career began as a teacher in the UK, and after immigrating to Australia, I worked at Phoenix Academic in Perth, helping international students prepare for university. Since joining Murdoch nearly 15 years ago, I’ve taken on many roles across various disciplines. Outside of work, I’m a proud mom and an experienced yoga teacher. I believe in the power of connecting mind and body to shape how we think, feel, and communicate and use this embodied approach to help students create meaningful and enjoyable learning experiences!

image of Dr Simon OrderA highly creative academic leader, educator, and researcher in education, audio media, technology, and communications; responsive to new disciplinary ideas and technologies; always looking to enhance project success within an educational/research environment. Experienced stakeholder engagement coordinator, content producer and educator with a demonstrated history of working in the NFP and higher education industries. Strong arts and design professional with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) focused on Mass Communication/Media Studies (Community Radio) from Murdoch University and a Master of Science in Music Information Technology from City University in London. I am an active professional practitioner in electronic music production.
