Esports & Experience Day

 

Murdoch University invites High School students for a day of competition and exploration. Our Rocket League esports tournament offers your students the opportunity to compete against other schools, with prizes and trophies. Beyond the competition, students will gain valuable insights into university life through campus tours featuring our state-of-the-art esports hub as well as our sports and recreation facilities, including our new gym. They can engage directly with current university students and staff at informational stalls to explore course options, alternative pathways into university and ask any questions about higher education.

Activities you can expect include, Drone Racing, Virtual Reality Immersion, Robot Dogs, Games created by Murdoch Students, All Stars match vs Murdoch Esports Team, Fortnite & Valorant Challenges + More!

 

 

About the venue

Located at Level 1 of Boola Katitjin (building 360, room 1.010), the Digilab at Murdoch University is a digital immersive lab designed to enhance learning through technology. It's equipped with high-powered computers, 4K displays, a video wall, and virtual reality tools to support simulations, augmented reality, gaming, and more. The space is also used for exploring large datasets, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

The lab features 40 high-performance Alienware computers with 4K resolution dual LCD screens, a wall-mounted screen, and a 18-display video wall. This will be where the Rocket League competition is held, lunch and the other activations will be held in the Welcome Space located opposite the DigiLab, room 1.001.

What to bring

All gaming accessories, gaming computer, peripherals and lunch will be provided. Students have to option of a controller or keyboard and mouse setup to play Rocket League.

FAQs

Can my school register more than 1 team?

Yes, we encourage registering all interested students. However, to ensure as many schools as possible can participate, we prioritize one team per school, with remaining spots allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Any additional teams that are unable to compete will be notified as soon as possible and we encourage them to still attend the event as spectators and participate in the other activities.

 

Do I need to wear school uniform?

Schools may chose whether they want their students to wear school uniform or free dress. Please contact the teacher or staff member at your school organising your registrations.

 

Who can attend the event?

Any High school student can attend, either with their High School to compete in the Rocket League competition or as a spectator to participate in the other activities. Lunch is included for all attendees. If you are a high school student and want to attend please contact your school to have you registered

 

What is the Rocket League competition format?

The competition will be broken into two stages, the Group Stage and Finals. The group stage will be a round robin series of matches beginning immediately after the opening talks and finish before lunch. After lunch the winners of the Group Stage will compete in Finals to be the Rocket League Champions.

 

What other activities are available besides the tournament?

Activities include campus tours, informational stalls about courses and university pathways from current students and staff, casual gaming on Nintendo Switches, Virtual Reality experiences, and play vs the Murdoch Uni Rocket League team. Any new activities will be announced on the Murdoch Active Esports Discord Server.

 

Where is the event located?

Attendees are to check in at the Murdoch University Welcome Space located in Building 360, Room 1.001. The Welcome Space is where lunch will be provided and all the additional activities and activations will be held. The Rocket League competition will be held in the room behind the Welcome Space, Room 1.010.

 

How do I get to the event?

Free parking will be available on the day of the event in all Green & Red parking zones, the closest car park to Building 360 is Car Park 8, located on Discovery Way.

Bus Stop 4 is the closest bus stop to Building 360, which services routes 204, 205, 206, 207 and 998.

 

When do registrations close?

Is there a cost to attend?

The event is free for all attendees. Lunch will be provided for all registered high school students and any teachers.

 

Can parents or teachers attend?

Yes, parents and teachers can attend as spectators to support students and explore university offerings and activities. Please note lunch will only be supplied for registered students and teaching/school staff.
