The Lowitja Institute Starlight Children’s Foundation Scholarship

The Lowitja Institute and Starlight Children’s Foundation are excited to offer a PhD scholarship to help better understand the value of humour, laughter and imagination for the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples – focusing on the resilience of children and young people.

We’re looking for a student to work with us to research this unique, important and fun topic beginning in 2018. We’ve funded a 3-year scholarship open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander post-graduate students from anywhere in Australia.

Value$40,000 per year ($30,000 stipend for research and $10,000 for travel and related expenses)
Duration3 years (beginning of 2018)

To apply for this scholarship you must be:

  • an Australian citizen
  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (you may be required to provide documentation to support during the interview process)
  • not in receipt of another award, scholarship or salary considered to be equivalent to or to duplicate the purpose and benefits of the scholarship. An equivalent award is defined as an amount of money which is greater than 75% of the basic stipend rate
  • studying at PhD level.
