Forrest Research Foundation Scholarship

The Forrest Research Foundation of The University of Western Australia was established in 2014 following the donation of $65 million, over 10 years, by Andrew and Nicola Forrest, through the Minderoo Foundation as Trustee of the Forrest Family Foundation.


Andrew and Nicola Forrest's donation, through the Minderoo Foundation as Trustee of the Forrest Family Foundation is to assist Western Australia (WA) in becoming a world-class centre of research and innovation through attracting the next generation of outstanding intellects to Western Australia. Forrest Research Foundation Scholarships are offered across all five WA universities to outstanding students who wish to undertake high quality research and enrol in a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at a WA university.

  • A Research Training Program Stipend valued at $27,082 per annum in 2019;
  • an accommodation allowance valued at $20,697 in 2019 and subject to annual indexation and
  • A relocation and research operating/research travel allowance of up to $13,000

  • Scholars will be selected from international and Australian applicants who demonstrate an outstanding academic ability to undertake research work with the potential to change the world we live in.
  • Applications will be assessed on the basis of each applicant's: academic achievements (with a bachelor's degree of First Class Honours standard or equivalent) exceptional ability, resourcefulness and originality, potential to make a positive difference to the world, demonstration of how the award would help build world-class innovation and research capacity in Western Australia.
  • The selection of successful applicants is undertaken by the Selection Committee, which comprises eminent people from the research and broader communities.

Receipt of the scholarship is contingent on the following ongoing terms and conditions:

  • In order to be considered for a Forrest Research Foundation Scholarship, you must apply for admission into a Graduate Research Degree at Murdoch University and apply for the MU Research Scholarship.
