Games technology sits at the forefront of digital innovation, combining creativity and technical expertise to create interactive experiences. The Games Technology major within our Bachelor of Information Technology prepares you to design and develop games, simulations and immersive digital environments for a rapidly growing global industry. 

Across your games technology studies, you’ll explore areas such as game programming, real-time graphics, interactive systems, AI and software development. As you build your skills in games technology development and interactive media technology, you’ll gain the coding and problem-solving expertise needed to design and optimise games for different platforms and audiences. 

You’ll bring your ideas to life in our IT Innovation Hub – a state-of-the-art, 24/7 facility designed for creative technology. With access to advanced game development labs, a dedicated mixed and augmented reality (AR) studio and Western Australia’s only university-based Esports Gaming Hub, you’ll get hands-on experience in virtual reality (VR) and AR development, creating immersive media using industry-standard tools. 

You’ll apply your skills through project-based units, working on real client briefs and collaborative game development projects. You’ll also gain real industry experience through internships or work placements, building valuable professional connections. 

As part of our flexible IT degree, you can combine this major with others such as Games Design and Development, Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems, Business Information Systems, Computer Science, Cyber Security and Forensics or Internetworking and Network Security to broaden your career opportunities.

Professional recognition

Graduates who complete this major as part of the Bachelor of Information Technology (B1390) or the Bachelor of Laws/ Bachelor of Information Technology (B1398) are eligible to apply for membership of the Australian Computer Society (ACS) at the Professional level.
