What is a Major?
A major is your primary area of focus within a degree. It determines the core subjects you'll study and the skills you'll master.

Major overview

Launch your AI career with a major in artificial intelligence and autonomous systems

Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming how we live, work and solve complex problems. The Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems major within our Bachelor of Information Technology prepares you to design intelligent systems that can learn, adapt and operate independently in real-world environments.

Throughout your AI major, you’ll explore areas such as machine learning, robotics, computer vision and intelligent systems while building strong programming and analytical skills. You’ll also learn how AI is applied across industries – from smart devices and automation to data-driven decision making.

Designed in consultation with industry advisers, our AI major reflects the latest developments in AI and emerging technologies. You’ll learn from experienced IT academics and industry professionals while building your expertise through hands-on, project-based units.

You’ll gain practical experience in our IT Innovation Hub – a dynamic, 24/7 space where you can experiment, collaborate and build intelligent systems using advanced labs and immersive technologies. You’ll also have access to industry-standard enterprise-level infrastructure in our dedicated data centre.

As part of our flexible IT degree, you can combine this major with others such as Business Information Systems, Computer Science, Cyber Security and Forensics, Games Design and Development, Games Technology or Internetworking and Network Security to broaden your AI career opportunities.
