An exceptional teacher in each classroom is one of the most important resources we can provide children and young people. It is important to continue to prepare and produce high quality teachers. Rick and Kathy’s commitment to supporting learners, whatever their starting base may be, has inspired the Kathy Digwood and Rick Cummings Future Teacher Scholarship which will assist first year Bachelor of Education students who are facing financial and/or personal hardship.

This scholarship is currently accepting applications.

Prospective students who have applied to Murdoch University, or current students with a Murdoch University Student ID number can complete this application form and upload your supporting documentation to the application form.

Prospective students who have not yet applied to Murdoch University can complete this application form and email your supporting documentation to scholarships@murdoch.edu.au. Please include your name and the scholarship you are applying for in the subject line of the email.

Required Documents

  1. Personal statement no more than 300 words addressing:
    • your personal and/or financial hardship and the impact it is having on you
    • how the scholarship will assist you to be successful in your studies
  2. Evidence of financial hardship (e.g. Centrelink Income Statement, ATO Notice of Assessment, Payslip)
  3. Reference - a signed letter from an academic, professional or personal referee outlining your current circumstances (please note that references from family will not be accepted)

File naming: Where possible, please name your files using your surname, first name initial and date.

Payment Method

Payments will be made directly into recipient's nominated bank account in the following instalments:

  • $2,500 in the semester you are awarded
  • $2,500 in the consecutive second semester 

Scholarship payment processing commences from week 7 of each respective semester.

Note: While we endeavour to process and pay all scholarship student payments within week 7 and/or 8 of the respective semester, in some unforeseen circumstances your payment may arrive in your bank account later than week 8.

All payments are subject to your acceptance and ongoing compliance with the terms and conditions of the award.
