James TF Chong Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2007, the James T F Chong Memorial Scholarship supports commencing Bachelor of Law students at Murdoch University who have achieved an ATAR of 90 or above and demonstrated commitment and initiative in both their academic and personal lives.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

  • be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • be a current year 12 school leaver with an ATAR of 90 or higher
  • Be commencing full-time study (9 credit points or greater) in the first year of the Bachelor of Laws at Murdoch University
  • able to demonstrate a measure of commitment and initiative in your academic and/or personal life

How to Apply

This scholarship is currently accepting applications.

Prospective students who have applied to Murdoch University, or current students with a Murdoch University Student ID number - Please complete this application form and upload your supporting documentation to your application form.

Prospective students who have not yet applied to Murdoch University - please complete this application form and email your supporting documentation to scholarships@murdoch.edu.au. Please include your name and the scholarship you are applying for in the subject line of the email.

Required Documents

  1. Personal statement adressing:
    • your academic goals and intended career pathway;
    • how this scholarship will support you in achieving these goals;
    • examples that demonstrate your commitment and initiative in your academic and/or personal pursuits;
    • your motivation for studying law and for choosing Murdoch University.
  2. One written reference from a member of the community (not related to you) who can comment on your commitment and initiative in your academic and/or personal life.
  3. Evidence of financial hardship (if applicable) such as a recent copy of your Centrelink statement or bank statement dated within the last 30 days.

File naming: Where possible, please name your files using your surname, first name initial and date.

Payment Method

Payments will be made directly into recipient's nominated bank account in the following instalments:

$2,500 in the semester you are awarded

$2,500 in the consecutive second semester

Scholarship payment processing commences from week 7 of each respective semester.

Note: While we endeavour to process and pay all scholarship student payments within week 7 and/or 8 of the respective semester, in some unforeseen circumstances your payment may arrive in your bank account later than week 8.

All payments are subject to your acceptance and ongoing compliance with the terms and conditions of the award.
