High Performance Sport Industry PhD Scholarship

The proposed PhD will investigate the physiological, tactical, and fatigue-related determinants of performance in elite female 3x3 basketball, addressing major gaps in a field largely informed by male or mixed-sex research. Through an integrated series of studies, the project will quantify the physical and technical–tactical demands of elite women’s 3x3 competition, compare these demands with those observed in male 3x3 and traditional female 5v5 formats, and examine how condensed tournament schedules influence fatigue and recovery. It will also identify the key performance indicators that differentiate successful teams in elite female play, such as shooting efficiency, tactical behaviours, and scoring strategies. Together, this research will establish the first comprehensive evidence base describing the unique performance demands of elite female 3x3 basketball, informing athlete preparation, coaching practice, and competition management within the rapidly expanding women’s game.
