A.J. Parker Memorial Scholarship

The A.J. Parker Memorial Scholarship honours the memory and scientific achievements of Professor A.J. Parker. Professor Parker was appointed as a foundation professor of Chemistry and Mineral Science at Murdoch University in 1974. Much of his work involved understanding and developing the science of disparate areas of chemistry. His research into non-aqueous hydrometallurgy and storage of electrical energy are today seen as novel and visionary.


The successful recipient will receive a copy of the following paper which provides an overview of Professor Parker’s career as a chemist and his contribution to chemistry and mineral science: Cole ARH & Watts, DW. Alan James Parker 1933-1982. Historical Records of Australian Science 6(3) pp 399-407.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must be intending to enrol, or be enrolled, full-time in one of the following courses:

Please note that part-time study may be considered in extenuating circumstances, however, preference will be given to students undertaking the Graduate Diploma in Extractive Metallurgy.

This scholarship is currently accepting applications.

Prospective students who have applied to Murdoch University, or current students with a Murdoch University Student ID number can complete this application form and upload your supporting documentation to the application form.

Prospective students who have not yet applied to Murdoch University can complete this application form and email your supporting documentation to scholarships@murdoch.edu.au. Please include your name and the scholarship you are applying for in the subject line of the email.

  1. Personal statement (no more than 500 words) outlining why you should be chosen for this scholarship
  2. Official Academic Transcript for completed studies

File naming: Where possible, please name your files using your surname, first name initial and date.

Payment Method

Payments will be made directly into recipient's nominated bank account in the following instalments:

  • $1,500 in the semester you are awarded
  • $1,500 in the consecutive second semester

Scholarship payment processing commences from week 7 of each respective semester.

Note: While we endeavour to process and pay all scholarship student payments within week 7 and/or 8 of the respective semester, in some unforeseen circumstances your payment may arrive in your bank account later than week 8.

All payments are subject to your acceptance and ongoing compliance with the terms and conditions of the award.
