What is a Major?
A major is your primary area of focus within a degree. It determines the core subjects you'll study and the skills you'll master.

Major overview

Build a global tourism career with a major in hospitality and tourism management

Are you passionate about people and travel? Tourism and hospitality can offer you the opportunity to connect with cultures, communities and destinations around the world. Study the Hospitality and Tourism Management major within our Bachelor of Business and you’ll learn how tourism businesses operate, how destinations grow sustainably and how organisations create memorable visitor experiences.

You’ll discover how tourism systems evolve as traveller expectations change and global destinations compete for attention. Topics such as destination management, sustainable tourism and hospitality operations will give you insight into how organisations develop successful destinations while balancing environmental and community impacts.

Strong business skills are essential in this fast-moving industry. Throughout your hospitality and tourism major, you’ll learn how to apply research and data to guide decision making, forecast tourism trends and develop strategies that support long-term industry growth. Your assessments emphasise real-world scenarios, allowing you to tackle practical challenges rather than theoretical case studies.

You can expand your expertise by combining the Hospitality and Tourism Management major with another Bachelor of Business discipline such as Accounting, Banking, Business Law, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Finance, Human Resources Management, Human Resources Management (AHRI Accredited), International Business, Management or Marketing. This integrated knowledge helps you connect tourism strategy with wider business and economic trends.

Whether you see yourself managing a destination, developing tourism experiences or leading hospitality organisations, this major prepares you for a career in a global and constantly evolving industry.
