What is a Major?
A major is your primary area of focus within a degree. It determines the core subjects you'll study and the skills you'll master.

Major overview

Create immersive worlds and playable games with a major in games art and design

Games are one of the fastest-growing creative industries, combining storytelling, visual design and interactive technology. The Games Art and Design major within our Bachelor of Creative Media helps you develop the artistic and technical skills needed to create immersive digital worlds and engaging player experiences while preparing for a career in games development.

If you want to study games design and digital art, our games art and design major introduces the full production pipeline behind modern games. Creating your own games and mods, you’ll learn how animation, 3D modelling, concept art and level design shape interactive environments and gameplay across platforms such as mobile and virtual reality. Learn from experienced games production specialists in dedicated facilities, including a specialised games computer lab and our dedicated Esports Gaming Hub, using the tools and workflows of the games development industry.

As you progress, you’ll have the opportunity to explore different areas of games design and art within the games production process. You might focus on concept art, translating ideas into characters and visual designs; games design, constructing virtual worlds and gameplay systems; or production art, creating characters, props and environments through 3D modelling, animation and texture design.

You can also expand your creative media degree by combining Games Art and Design with other creative majors such as Graphic Design, Photography, Screen Production or Sound Design, building complementary skills across visual communication, storytelling and digital production.

Along the way, you’ll work with industry-standard tools and digital art workflows used in games development. Through practical projects and collaborative studio work, you’ll build a portfolio of games assets and playable experiences that showcase your skills to future employers.
