What is a Major?
A major is your primary area of focus within a degree. It determines the core subjects you'll study and the skills you'll master.

Major overview

Launch your career in sound production with our Sound Design major

If you’re passionate about audio and want to shape how audiences experience music, film, games and digital media, you can major in sound design within our Bachelor of Creative Media and develop the technical and creative skills to design, record and produce audio for a wide range of media projects.

Throughout your sound design course, you’ll explore areas such as music recording, editing, mixing and remixing; film and television sound recording, editing, mixing and design; sound design for interactive media, games and theatre; industrial sound design and podcasting. You’ll also gain practical industry experience through our Work Integrated Learning program, working with organisations on real projects while developing professional sound production skills.

Learn in specialised design studios and digital production facilities, equipped with professional tools used across the design industry. Here you’ll explore techniques used across contemporary sound production, from music recording and studio mixing to sound design for film, games, theatre and interactive media.

You can also customise your creative media degree by combining Sound Design with other creative majors such as Games Art and Design, Theatre and Creative Production or Screen Production, building complementary skills across audio production, visual storytelling and interactive media.

During your studies, you’ll create a variety of audio projects while building the technical and creative expertise needed for a successful sound design career. These skills open opportunities across a wide range of industries from music production and film and television sound production to games audio, podcasting, live sound engineering and digital media production.
