Recognition of prior learning
If you have previous study or professional experience relating to your field of study, you may be eligible to receive credit for certain units in your course. Known as Advanced Standing, this could reduce your overall study load and the amount of time you need to study before you can graduate.
Are you eligible?
Murdoch University has agreements for Advanced Standing with a variety of institutions within Australia and around the world. You can check what credits or exemptions from previous study you may be eligible for using our Advanced Standing calculator.
Apply for Advanced Standing
When you apply to Murdoch, Advanced Standing is automatically assessed and advised in your Letter of Offer. You can apply for additional advanced standing online. The documents required will depend on the type of experience you have.
- official academic transcript and award certificate
- detailed unit outlines or course syllabus (if you are requesting specific exemptions).
- cover letter
- statement of criteria
- up-to-date curriculum vitae (CV), resume or statement of previous work history and training.
For international students:
- You must formally accept offered advanced standing. If the advanced standing affects your course duration, the University will issue you with a Confirmation of Enrolment reflecting the new course duration.
