Discover how biochemistry and nutrition shape human health

Understanding how the body processes nutrients is key to improving health and preventing disease. The Biochemistry and Nutrition major within our Bachelor of Biomedical Science explores the relationship between food, metabolism and human health, preparing you for a career in health, research or nutrition science.

Across your nutrition science major, you’ll study areas such as human metabolism, molecular biology, food and health science and nutritional biochemistry. You’ll learn how nutrients are processed at a cellular level and how diet influences health, disease prevention and overall wellbeing.

Guided by leading academics, you’ll develop strong analytical and laboratory skills while engaging with leading-edge research in areas such as metabolism, nutrition and biomedical science. You’ll gain insight into how scientific discoveries inform dietary recommendations, public health strategies and biomedical research.

You’ll study in the cutting-edge Murdoch Health and Knowledge Precinct, surrounded by hospitals and leading research centres, including the Australian National Phenome Centre. Working in modern labs and real-world settings, you’ll build hands-on skills using industry-standard equipment.

As part of our flexible biomedical science degree, you can combine Biochemistry and Nutrition with another major, choosing from Biomedicine, Clinical Laboratory Science, Genetics and Biotechnology, Microbiology and Immunology or Pharmacology and Toxicology, to broaden your expertise and expand your health science career opportunities.
