What is a Major?
A major is your primary area of focus within a degree. It determines the core subjects you'll study and the skills you'll master.

Major overview

Make global impact with a conservation and wildlife biology major

As climate change, population growth and human activity place increasing pressure on biodiversity, the demand for skilled conservation professionals has never been greater. If you’re passionate about protecting ecosystems under pressure, the Conservation and Wildlife Biology major within our Bachelor of Science (Environmental and Conservation Sciences) gives you the scientific foundations and practical experience to build a meaningful career in conservation or wildlife biology.

Throughout your hands-on conservation and wildlife biology major, you’ll discover how plants, animals and ecosystems function, exploring the ways science is used to conserve them in Australia and around the world.

Part of our flexible science degree, the Conservation and Wildlife Biology major combines core biological knowledge with applied, field-based learning. Whether you’re planning a pathway into research, ecological management or biodiversity protection, you can combine the Conservation and Wildlife Biology major with others such as Environmental Science and Management or Marine Biology to broaden your expertise and career opportunities.

You’ll gain hands-on experience through on-the-ground research, laboratory training and real-world case study analysis. You’ll also develop a strong understanding of the environmental, social and policy contexts that shape environmental outcomes.

By the time you graduate, you’ll be ready to apply your scientific knowledge and practical skills across conservation, ecology, biodiversity management and environmental research careers.
