School Partnerships

Current school partnership arrangements were formed as result of a 2009 research project (the School Experience Audit and Future Planning Review) initiated and funded by Murdoch School of Education to review current literature and models for best practice for professional experience in schools.

Recommendations from the project included the implementation of a model that promoted universities partnering with schools to provide high quality, authentic professional experience for students. The model included more time in one school where students would be provided with an authentic experience where they could put theory into practice. Since 2010 this model has evolved and Murdoch is now a flagship university for full-year internships for fourth year students as well as a range of options and possibilities for students to teach in a variety of contexts including a third year rural placement.

Schools can choose the level of commitment to partnership from the three tiers below:

  • Tier 1 - Murdoch Pre-service Teacher Professional Learning School – will take Pre-service Teachers (PSTs) from all cohorts; Will take internship PSTs.
  • Tier 2 - Murdoch Collegiate School – will take PSTs from some cohorts; Possibility to offer internships to PSTs.
  • Tier 3 - Murdoch Experiential Schools – Schools happy to have PSTs at various levels, but not a whole school priority.
