Thailand - 2 week placement in Phuket or rural Thailand - B.Ed (HPE/ Sports Science) 3rd year students

Thai_3.jpgSelected groups of 3rd year Murdoch Bachelor of Education students (Health & Physical Exercise 1-10 OR Secondary + Sports Science) to experience a 2 week internship at a school in rural Thailand (Beaumont Ruam Pattana OR Mechai Bamboo School) or in Phuket (British International School), with student flights, visas and accommodation funded by the Australian Government’s New Colombo Plan Mobility Program. The Mobility Program is open to Australian citizen university undergraduates aged 18-28, with capacity to include some students over 28. Over time, the Australian Government wants to see study in the Indo-Pacific region become a rite of passage for Australian undergraduate students, and as an endeavour that is highly valued across the Australian community.

Reflections from Murdoch students

"I was placed at the British International School in Phuket which definitely lives up to their motto of ‘world class’. The school is home to four sporting academies; football, swimming, golf and tennis where students are provided with amazing facilities, very high level coaches and passionate teachers. This was a great community to become a part of. Being placed in a foreign environment with different teaching philosophies and curriculum has definitely broadened my ideas of teaching and provided me with many strategies I can apply in the near future. To have the opportunity to teach sport in a school with such amazing facilities and school culture has been the best experience and one I will never forget!" Rochelle Gaudieri - B.Ed+B.Sc (secondary /sports science) – British International School Phuket.

“Being thrown into the fire where no one knows much English really enhances your own abilities to focus in what your trying to teach and create activities that are clear, direct and can be easily understood without the use of English or very little. The friends and professional colleagues I have met during my time studying in Thailand will provide me with a great stepping stone to enhance my own teaching experiences and teaching quality so I can be the best educator I can be.” Jamie Petrovich, Bachelor of Education, Primary, 1-10 Health and Physical Education - Beaumont Ruam Pattana School.

“The opportunity to teach at the Mechai Pattana School was a valuable once in a lifetime experience. The experience not only developed my teaching skills, but my life skills as well… Immersing myself in the school and rural Thai culture has given me a new perspective on teaching students who are from disadvantaged or diverse cultural backgrounds.” Taryn Chambers, Bachelor of Education, Primary, 1-10 Health and Physical Education - Mechai Bamboo School.
