What is a Major?
A major is your primary area of focus within a degree. It determines the core subjects you'll study and the skills you'll master.

Major overview

Study data science and learn how to analyse complex data to solve real-world problems

Build the skills to work with large and complex datasets and uncover insights that inform decisions. With a Data Science major as part of our Bachelor of Data Analytics, you’ll learn how to collect, analyse and interpret data to solve problems across industries.

Throughout your data science studies, you’ll develop strong foundations in statistics, programming and data analysis, working with tools and languages such as Python and R. You’ll learn how to apply machine learning techniques and advanced analytical methods to identify patterns, make predictions and support decision making in real-world contexts.

Developed with input from industry, our major focuses on tackling complex data problems and applying advanced analytical techniques. You’ll learn from experienced information technology (IT) professionals and build practical skills in our IT Innovation Hub, working with advanced data infrastructure in hands-on environments.

As part of your data analytics degree, you can combine this major with others to tailor your studies to your interests and career goals. Pair Data Science with Business Intelligence to strengthen your ability to communicate insights and support decision making, or with FinTech to apply data science in financial and technology-driven contexts.

You’ll graduate with in-demand skills in data analysis, machine learning and problem solving, preparing you for a wide range of data science careers.
