Major overview
Travel, live and work almost anywhere in the world with a qualification in international education. In this major, you’ll learn the history and development of International Education as a field of study, including a range of international curriculum models and practices.
You’ll be introduced to the essential elements of the International Baccalaureate suite of programmes, including primary years, middle years and diploma programmes.
Upon completion, in addition to a Murdoch degree, you may also receive an IB Certificate in Teaching and Learning (PYP, MYP, or DP) or an IB Advanced Certificate in Teaching and Learning Research. In this major, you are presented with opportunities to immerse yourselves in rich IB-related experiences. These include IB World School observations or conversations with experienced IB teachers and members of the IB educator network.
Throughout the course, you’ll also develop a teaching portfolio and have opportunities to observe and converse with international school teachers and leaders. The major is designed for teaching professionals and is authorised and aligned to the IB Educator Certificate.

Your future career
Upon completing this major you could work in a range of settings including international schools throughout the world such as International Baccalaureate schools and those schools internationalising the curriculum.
Students who successfully complete the Graduate Certificate may apply for admission to the Master of Education (Coursework) and on completion may receive the IB Advanced Certificate in Teaching and Learning Research.
Professional accreditation
This offering does not constitute a teaching qualification and is not accredited by the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA).
Professional recognition
The Major in International Education in Graduate Certificate in Education and Master of Education has been accredited by the International Baccalaureate (IB). If taking this option, on successful completion of all required units in the Major, as well as the successful completion of required IB experience, students will be eligible to receive a Teaching and Learning Certificate.
Master of Education has been accredited by the International Baccalaureate (IB). If taking this option, on successful completion of all required units, as well as the teaching experience in IB schools, students will be eligible to receive the Advanced Teaching and Learning Research from the International Baccalaureate.
