What is a Major?
A major is your primary area of focus within a degree. It determines the core subjects you'll study and the skills you'll master.

Major overview

This major is designed for qualified teachers who are interested in upskilling in HASS. You’ll learn the pedagogy/curriculum of HASS, including the principles and practices of teaching and learning HASS from Years 7-10 in History, Civics, Geography, Economics and Business.

A key focus will be placed on teaching strategies, curriculum planning and the creation of learning resources and assessments. You’ll develop resource portfolios on allocated topics of work which will include a variety of learning experiences that draw links to educational theories and practices.

You’ll also be able to take your knew-found knowledge and apply it in simulated lessons with our SimLab technology before reflecting on your experiences.

3 reasons to study Education at Murdoch University

  1. Practise what you learn with our SimLabTM technology. It’s a virtual classroom using actors and avatars – and the only technology of its kind in WA.
  2. Our part-time, on-campus or online options help you fit study into your working life.
  3. You’ll have dedicated Student Success Advisors to help you along your postgraduate journey.

What you’ll learn

  • How to construct teaching resources, pedagogical strategies and lesson plans
  • Teaching and assessment strategies for a diverse range of students
  • Different theoretical approaches from curriculum and pedagogy that can be applied in practice
  • How to evaluate and plan for your own professional growth using reflective practice

I think if you want to make change, then you need to be looking for places that enable you to show that you care. And Murdoch did that. Murdoch did that for me.
