Study electrical and renewable energy engineering in a real plant and outdoor test facility 

Discover the future of energy as you learn how modern power systems are designed, managed and transformed. With access to a real-world engineering plant, dedicated control room and outdoor renewable energy test area – the only facility of its kind at a Western Australian university – the Electrical and Renewable Energy Engineering major within our Bachelor of Engineering Technology gives you hands-on experience with the technologies shaping the global energy transition. 

During your electrical and renewable energy engineering studies, you’ll build expertise in electrical systems, power generation and renewable energy technologies, from solar and distributed energy resources to transmission and distribution networks. You’ll learn how to analyse, operate and improve smart power systems, developing the technical skills needed to support reliable and sustainable energy supply. 

You’ll also complete 300 hours of practical learning, which may include industry projects or placements, applying your knowledge in real-world environments and gaining valuable industry experience in preparation for your engineering career. 

You can combine your Electrical and Renewable Energy Engineering major with other majors including Environmental Engineering or Industrial Control and Automation Engineering to broaden your expertise across energy, sustainability and automation systems.  

Supported by industry-informed teaching and practical learning environments, you’ll graduate with the confidence to contribute to energy systems, infrastructure and emerging renewable technologies in a rapidly evolving sector.
