A major is your primary area of focus within a degree. It determines the core subjects you'll study and the skills you'll master.

Major overview

Gain a well-rounded perspective of biomedical science with extensive hands-on practical classes from academics who are making a real-world impact with their research.

You’ll prepare for your career by exploring a key range of disciplines including cell biology, physiology, microbiology, immunology, pharmacology and pathology. You could broaden your scope by also including other areas of study such as anatomy, parasitology, haematology, histology and molecular biology.

At the end of your course, you’ll integrate the cutting-edge applications you’ve learnt as well as be prepared for future career pathways.

  • Medical immunology (how the body defends against infection)
  •  Pharmacology (drugs and how they affect the body)
  • Pathology (causes and effects of disease, including cancer)
  • History (diagnosis of tissue disorders)

Your future career

This course will prepare you for a career in various medical and health related fields. There are also numerous opportunities to take on higher studies and complete a research qualification as part of an Honours year, followed by higher-level Masters or PhD research. Careers could include:

  • Medical Researcher /Scientist
