Internships or Extended Practicum Placements

Murdoch, in collaboration with its ‘Partnership Schools’, offers a wide range of nationally recognised internship programs that provide for a full year of school immersion experience for final year education students (including  M.Teach students).

Fourth term PSTs also have the option to work the fourth school term with a Limited Authority to Teach. As a result, interns are actively sought out and successful in obtaining employment, as educational stakeholders involved in extended placements have recognized and valued the preparedness of Pre-Service Teachers (PSTs) who exit the programs. Long term (one year) Internship Options

Some of our previous internship schools have included:

  • Kingston Primary - Australind (link)
  • Perth Metro Primary (link)
  • Bold Park Community School
  • Wheatbelt Primary & Secondary (link)
  • Rural (other) Primary (link)

How it works

Interns will be attached to a school from the start of the year through to the end of the year (before and after university start and finish dates). The amount of contact time in the assigned school is different for each program – some are 1 day a week building to full time. All programs complete a ‘full block placement’ in third term. NOTE: Students who choose to complete an ‘extended practicum’, as an alternative to Murdoch's 10 week block Final Professional Experience, must change their enrolment to external whilst undertaking the internship.
