Sustainable Tourism Development: Asian Study Tour

Are you passionate about sustainable tourism? Are you concerned about the issues facing rural communities? Are you interested in a transformative cultural immersion experience in Japan? If your answer is ‘yes’ to all the above questions, this is the program for you!

The Sustainable Tourism Development Asian Study Tour is an intensive, five-week unit which includes a two-week study tour in Hokkaido, Japan. It explores the economic, social-cultural, and environmental impacts of tourism destinations on local communities and stakeholders.

During the study tour, students will embark on a project in a cross-cultural team to examine the issues and opportunities in a remote tourism destination in Hokkaido. The tour also includes a range of cultural immersion programs and excursions to various iconic tourism destinations in the region.
