What is a Major?
A major is your primary area of focus within a degree. It determines the core subjects you'll study and the skills you'll master.

Major overview

An Honours year in Theatre is your chance to deepen and extend your undergraduate studies by undertaking an independent research project supported by expert supervision. This project may take the form of a written dissertation or a practice-as-research study incorporating a creative work.

You will have the opportunity to develop your specialisation, while engaging with major debates in theatre and performance studies, such as theatre’s role in social change and the evolving relationship between text, performance and audience. Alongside this, you will cultivate advanced research skills, with the option for strengthening both your scholarly capacity and your creative practice.

Over one year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) study, you will develop advanced skills in critical thinking, creative practice, communication, leadership, collaboration and independent research—highly transferable skills valued in the creative industries, cultural organisations, education and beyond.

Having completed three semesters and my honours research in Indonesia, I was able to get a much better idea of development on the ground. I found that when I graduated, I had a more realistic idea of what to expect in the workplace.
