Scholarship for good logo

A scholarship can do a lot; it can open doors and provide opportunities for positive change. At Murdoch University, we believe in education for all, which is why we offer scholarships for those who are making a positive impact in their communities

At Murdoch University, we want to uplift these students and amplify their impact. Our Ngala Kwop Biddi Brighter Futures Scholarship goes beyond a typical academic based scholarship; it’s a scholarship for good.

Meet some of the first students to receive this scholarship:

Ophelia

Receiving the scholarship did more than help Ophelia get into university after an unexpected health issue popped up in her final year of school – it’s helping her achieve her childhood dream of becoming a vet. The former St George’s Anglican Grammar School student is studying Veterinary Medicine thanks to her commitment to making the world a better place - from raising awareness for the homeless, organising book drives for children in need to volunteering at a local animal shelter, Ophelia is just one example of how a scholarship for good can make a difference.

Astra

Astra makes the world a better, brighter place for all through their commitment to being who they are. The former Leeming Senior High School student led change by creating a discreet Rainbow Club, providing a safe space for younger students to feel connected and seen. Astra championed LGBTQIA+ students proudly, wearing visible pride flags and normalising name and pronoun changes. Astra has now turned their eyes to the digital world, studying Information Technology at Murdoch University.

Kimberly

Kimberly is passionate about promoting equity and diversity, creating the space and resources needed to promote a truly inclusive environment. She advocated for the recognition of First Nations at Willetton Senior High School, leading initiatives across NAIDOC Week, where she baked over 300 cookies using native ingredients and organised an Indigenous Yidaki (didgeridoo) performance. Now studying Business at Murdoch University, Kimberly is committed to continuing her work in creating positive change.

Benjamin

Ben has always been deeply passionate about wildlife and conservation. Joining BirdLife at age 11, he’s dedicated his time to advocating for the protection of native birds and their habitats. A volunteer for local turtle conservation projects as well, Ben is committed to educating his peers on the importance of sustainability and wildlife protection. Ben continues to pursue his goal of preserving nature for future generations, studying Environmental and Conservation Sciences.
