Course overview

Our Research Masters with Training is an 18-month full-time (or three years part-time) degree designed for:

Industry professionals seeking to extend and deepen their research expertise.
Professionals and others interested in undertaking research relevant to their professional field.
Those hoping to proceed to higher degrees but lacking in the conventional background.

You will be required to complete all research training units with a minimum to progress to the thesis portion of the degree. To graduate you will be required to produce a thesis consistent with the policy and regulations at Murdoch. When you graduate, you will be assessed and may be considered eligible for admission to Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) candidature.

Candidature for research degrees is offered in all disciplines. Murdoch encourages research in interdisciplinary areas as well as in the basic disciplines.

Admission requirements

To be eligible for admission as a candidate for a Research Masters with Training (RMT), an applicant must: * have a Bachelor Degree in the same or cognate discipline (AQF level 7); or * have a Bachelor Degree in a different discipline (AQF level 7) and: a) have successfully completed a graduate course in the same discipline requiring at least one year of equivalent full-time study (AQF level 8); or b) satisfy the Dean of Graduate Research with evidence of professional attainments (of at least two years' full-time duration or equivalent) relevant to the proposed research discipline; or * satisfy the Dean of Graduate Research with evidence of significant scholarly or professional attainments equivalent to AQF level 8.

English Requirements

You must meet a minimum standard in English to study at Murdoch, which for most courses can be demonstrated by providing evidence that you have completed Year 11 and 12 in Australia at any level if you are a domestic student, or through either English proficiency tests, university preparation courses, English language courses, previous tertiary study or vocational education.

Before you apply for admission to a graduate research project at Murdoch University, you will need to write a research proposal. For the best chance of being accepted, you should also find and nominate a potential supervisor. Given the amount of time and effort you'll be investing in your research, it's important that your research topic inspires you and will keep you motivated throughout your research journey.
