Oncology staff

The operation of MACCU is supported by our medicine staff. Each veterinarian working in the medicine section has specialist qualifications or is training for specialist qualifications in small animal medicine.

All residents in this programme undertake externship training in oncology and work within MACCU to provide optimal care for patients. All the veterinary staff have experience in medical management of cancer.

As cancer can affect many body systems, often the initial diagnosis is made by the medicine staff and then specific cancer
treatments recommended. Primary care of the patient may remain with the primary medicine clinician or be transferred to MACCU, but with ongoing input and care from both sections.

The nursing staff also work in both medicine and MACCU are dedicated to ensuring all aspects of patient care, especially nutrition and pain management are optimised.
