Murdoch Pet Emergency Centre process
Accessing Murdoch Pet Emergency Centre’s (MPEC) services is very straightforward:
-
You may divert clients to MPEC after-hours by providing our details on your after-hours telephone message.
Please ensure your message prompts clients to telephone us on 1300 652 494 before arriving at MPEC. This will allow us to provide directions and immediate clinical advice, if necessary, and to answer any queries they may have.
-
You may refer a client at any time, using the referral form.
This will help us to assess and manage the case by providing a history of the patient’s condition and any drugs and treatment given. You may fax the form to us or your client can bring the form with them.
Fax: 9360 7330
-
If a fax is not available then you may phone us to provide a brief history and supply contact details of your clinic.
Phone: 1300 652 494
-
You may use one of our Open/Closed door signs, which divert clients to MPEC after-hours and provide helpful first aid advice for owners in case of emergency.
-
Your clients may bring their pets to MPEC at any time, without an appointment or referral.
What your clients can expect on arrival
Patients arriving at Murdoch Pet Emergency Centre will always be reassessed by our duty veterinarian again as their condition may change rapidly.
IV catheters are also checked on arrival as these can dislodge during transportation by the owner.
Patients requiring oxygen
If patients require oxygen for transport, this can be arranged by calling Murdoch Pet Emergency Centre prior to sending the patient over.
Murdoch Pet Emergency Centre staff are not permitted to leave the premises, but we can organise by the best way to transfer the patient so it is not compromised further.
Returning patients to your care
Patients admitted to Murdoch Pet Emergency Centre for emergency treatment are returned to you at the earliest possible time - usually the next working day or consulting period, following admission.
Following consultation with your client and you, a critical patient may stay at Murdoch Pet Emergency Centre for intensive care and/or specialist referral care until recovered sufficiently for discharge home or back to your care.
Keeping you informed:
To speak with a veterinarian regarding an emergency case, phone our Triage Receptionist and you will be transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Phone 1300 652 494
All owners and referring vets receive a discharge letter that details the diagnosis, prognosis, treatment given and discharge information once the pet has been discharged.
