School of Engineering and Information Technology Grants

School of Engineering and Information Technology Equipment Grants Scheme

This provides support for the purchase of low to medium-cost equipment and/or software for research and/or teaching purposes to encourage such activities within the School.

Eligibility

All staff: SEIT academic, teaching or technical, on either continuous or fixed-term (with  > 2 years remaining) contracts can apply. Postdoctoral fellows are not eligible to apply as the principal applicant.

Amount

Requests of up to $30,000 will be considered although it is expected that most applications will be much smaller.

Usage & Limitations

• EGS funds can be used only for the purchase of equipment and/or software that is retained within SEIT.

• EGS funds cannot be used to cover long-term leasing, licensing or maintenance contracts.

• If the equipment cost exceeds $30k the applicant must demonstrate the existing availability of other funding to cover the difference.

• All purchases must comply with the relevant University policies.

School of Engineering and Information Technology Interdisciplinary Collaborative Research Grant Scheme

The School of Engineering and Information Technology has allocated funds to support and encourage academic staff up to Level D (Associate Professor) to be actively involved in research and related activities that will increase quality research outputs across the School’s disciplines. This grant is awarded for Intra-School Collaboration.

Eligibility

Academic staff up to Level D (Associate Professor)

Amount

Projects will be funded up to $15,000 to maximize the number of projects to be supported

Usage & Limitations

  • Allowable usage of the funds granted includes employment of personnel, purchase of small equipment or consumables, and travel support related to the project.
  • Not for teaching relief.

School of Engineering and Information Technology Small Grant Scheme

Research Strategic Plan 2014-2016, the School of Engineering and Information Technology has allocated funds in 2017 to support and encourage academic staff to be actively involved in research and related activities that will increase quality research outputs across the School’s disciplines.

Eligibility

  • Academic staff up to Level D (Associate Professor)

Amount

This project will be funded up to $15,000 and in rare cases $20,000 may be granted.

Usage & Limitations

  • The same project must not be submitted to both University and School Small Grant Schemes. If you are applying to both schemes, the projects must be distinctly different.

School of Engineering and Information Technology Travel Grant Scheme

The School of Engineering and Information Technology has allocated funds to support and encourage the participation of academic staff of all levels in national and international scientific conferences.

Eligibility

  • This scheme is open to all currently employed (remunerated) staff, with at least one year remaining on their contract.

  • Post-graduate and other students are not eligible to apply for travel funding through this scheme.

Amount

The scheme supports conference travel with up to $2500 for overseas conferences or up to $1000 for conferences within Australia.

Usage & Limitations

  • Travel is funded for active participation in the conference, usually in the form of a scientific (oral or poster) presentation.

School of Engineering and Information Technology New Staff Start-up Grant Scheme (SEIT NSSG)

The objective is to assist new staff in SEIT for the new staff to develop their research programs, to commence building their research groups and to establish a foundation for sustainable research outputs.

Eligibility

  • New academic staff appointed to a continuing position or on a long-term contract (three years or longer).

  • Postdoctoral fellows are not eligible to apply.

Amount

Subject to recommendation by the NSSG Committee and approval by the School Dean, up to $20,000 may be granted.

Usage & Limitations

  • Allowable usage of the fund granted includes employment of personnel, purchase of equipment or consumables, and travel support related to the project

  • Not for teaching relief.
