Pendopo Peace Pavilion
In 1993, the government and people of WA were presented, by the provincial government and people of East Java, a 80-piece set Gamelan orchestra. The gift acted as a symbol to strengthen ties between Western Australia and East Java by means of cultural understanding and exchange.
The Western Australian Gameland Orchestra is housed at Murdoch University, in a purpose built pendopo (customary Javanese structure) which was named Joglo Rahayu which means Peace Pavilion. Built with Australian materials and lending from the design of traditional pendopos, the storage area for the Gamelan orchestra is thermostatically controlled to ensure the intruments retail their musical and visual quality.
The Peave Pavilion welcomes and invites various community and interests groups to utilise the facilities.
