  The Social Research Unit within the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) undertakes a coordinated and comprehensive approach to conducting social research within DEC managed lands and waters with an aim of understanding people’s attitudes and behaviours towards the environment and how they interact with it. Social research further assists in better understanding issues related to DEC initiatives, enhance decision-making and improve the effective and timely delivery of services to the Western Australian public. The Unit also maintains the Department’s Recreation and Tourism Information System (RATIS).
