World class research excellence
Murdoch University is a research-led university with a reputation for world class research in select areas of knowledge. Our researchers engage with significant social and scientific challenges of our time that include climate change, food security and production, infectious diseases, mental health, politics and governance - past and present. Additionally, we have a reputation for excellence in teaching fuelled by our enthusiasm for research, the creation of new knowledge and its dissemination for the benefit of our communities both locally and abroad.
We are recognised as one of Australia's leading research institutions with over two thirds of our research effort being recognised as at world standard or better by independent assessors in the Australian Research Council Excellence in Research Assessment (ERA). There is excellence to be found in all parts of the University but there are particular strengths and critical mass in Medical & Health Sciences, Agriculture & Biotechnology, Physical Chemistry, Veterinary & Fisheries Science, Bioinformatics, Asian Politics & Governance and Digital & Printed Media.
In 2012 Murdoch was one of only two Western Australian Universities to be listed in the 2012-2013 'Top 400' of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, and also placed in the top five per cent of universities globally in the 2012-2013 QS World University's World Rankings.
Murdoch University is also a member of the Innovative Research Universities group of Australia - a collection of young, vibrant research universities created in the 1970s.
Research Outlook: China Focus
Over the past two decades, Murdoch University has actively engaged with China’s universities and research institutes to establish several joint research centres to undertake a variety of projects that are of significance to both Australia and China.
One example of this is the Australia-China Centre for Wheat Improvement (ACCWI), which aims to increase Australian wheat marketability in China by improving the quality attributes for producing Chinese domestic food products.
This publication (PDF) provides an overview of the University’s China engagement activities as well as showcasing the myriad of research expertise, which has represented Murdoch’s interests in China over the past two decades.
