Murdoch launches new study centre in Singapore
The Australian High Commissioner Mr Miles Kupa officially opened Murdoch University's International Study Centre (MUISC) in Singapore today (10am) in the presence of more than 100 invited guests, lecturers, alumni and students.
Murdoch's launched its first international study centre in Dubai earlier this year where course delivery is due to start in August.
Murdoch University's Deputy Vice Chancellor (Faculty, Enterprise & International) Professor Gary Martin said the Singapore launch builds on Murdoch's partnership with the Singapore Manufacturing Federation’s (SMa) Institute of Higher Learning.
"The Centre, which was previously SMa branded and hosted various international universities, is now solely dedicated to Murdoch University courses," Professor Martin said.
Murdoch's partnership with SMa has grown from 22 students studying two majors in the Bachelor of Commerce in 2004 to over 900 students studying in eight undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses. As part of the course offerings 19 majors are now on offer.
Murdoch plans to double the number of students studying at the Centre by the end of 2009.
MUISC Singapore spans six floors of prime city space that includes classrooms, computer laboratories, library and a newsroom for journalism students. It is also conveniently located opposite the Singapore National Library.
Professor Gary Martin said that the facilities were not only impressive but significant thought had gone into the creation of a program to provide high quality courses as well as strong academic support.
"Support initiatives include the appointment of an onsite Murdoch University Academic Dean, delivery of student learning skills workshops, and ready access to teaching staff in both Singapore and Perth," Professor Martin said.
Dr Moh Chong Tau, Chairman, SMa School of Management said MUISC was a dream come true for local students who want to pursue their higher education through an Australian University.
"With Singapore being Asia’s leading education hub and magnet for top talents, we are well-placed to tap into the lucrative regional demand for education excellence that Murdoch is renowned for," Dr Moh said.
Local and international students based in Singapore are now able to pursue a world-class Australian degree without having to bear the additional cost of going abroad.
The new MUISC Singapore is located at the SMa Institute of Higher Learning City Campus at North Bridge Road.
