Health Insurance

It is a requirement of the Australian Government Department of Immigration, Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA) that all international students have health cover for the entire duration of their study in Australia.

  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) provides comprehensive health insurance while you are in Australia.
  • You will be required to pay the cost of OSHC to the University at the time you pay your tuition fees.
  • The payment is necessary before the University can issue a Confirmation of Enrolment letter which you will require to apply for a student visa.

The cost of OSHC depends on your length of stay in Australia and will be calculated by the period shown on your visa.

Student Visas & Employment

Student visas cost approximately AU$400 (you will need to check the cost current at the time of applying) and are issued by the Australian Embassy or High Commission in your home country.

From April 26 2008 all student visas are issued with Permission to Work included. After you have commenced your studies Permission to Work allows you to work up to 20 hours per week during semester and full-time during university vacations.

Student Union Fees

Student Union (Guild) fees are voluntary for all students.

The Guild offers many services to Murdoch students. These include non-medical accident insurance, discounted prices to join the Recreation and Sports Centre and other Guild commercial centres on campus such as Sir Walter’s Coffee Shop and the Guild Shop.  The Guild also provides a range of social activities, live music and many different clubs and societies.
