Alternative Pathways for University
Not every path to Murdoch starts when you finish high school. In fact, a lot of people make the decision to study later in their life; over 60% of our student population is over 19.
We’ve gathered various entrance pathways supporting this decision here, so you can see how you might already qualify to study with us. Just remember that all applications for Semester 1 must be made with TISC!
Use your ATAR Score
Perhaps you left high school last year or maybe it’s been a few years since you sat your year 12 exams. Regardless of how long ago it was you can still use your ATAR score to qualify, provided you meet the cut-off for the course you want to take. ATAR never expires!
Using your TAFE study or previous experience at University
Proof of further study can replace your ATAR. If you have achieved a Certificate IV, in any subject, from TAFE then you qualify to study most undergraduate degrees at Murdoch. Completion of TAFE Diplomas or Advanced Diplomas might also give you advance standing credit towards your degree!
Completion of at least two units of University study in any field qualifies you for most undergraduate degrees. These, like ATAR, never expire! And, if those units are related to your new course, you could qualify for advanced standing too!
Sitting the STAT
The Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) applies if you are over 20, and don’t have a Year 12 score or any further study. The STAT is run by TISCthroughout the year, allowing you to start in semester 1 or 2. Murdoch offers a preparation course to provide you with advice and guidance on what you can expect from the STAT test.
Bridging courses
Even if none of these pathways apply, University is still within reach! We offer a series of bridging courses aimed at helping people make the transition to Murdoch. Our friendly Student Centre can help you work out what steps you will need to take.
