School leaver entry requirements

Traditionally high school students qualify for admission to university by gaining an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) through year 12 studies.  We offer a range of alternative pathways if you don't have an ATAR.

Standard Admission Requirements

The standard requirements for admission to Murdoch for school leavers are gained through a successful completion of:

  • Secondary School graduation (WACE) with at least four stage 2 or 3 courses of study, or an interstate or international equivalent such as the International Baccalaureate diploma.
  • A competitive Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) which is calculated from your school and exam results.
  • English competency – you will need a scaled mark of at least 50 in Stage 2 or 3 of English, Literature or English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD).

If you have undertaken your high school study in another country or in a language other than English, you must meet English competency through one of the following:

TOEFL – Paper based 550 (with the Test of Written English 5)
TOEFL – Computer based 213 (with the Test of Written English 5)
TOEFL – Internet based   80 (no band less that 20)

Australian Matriculation English Pass
Cambridge 1119 C6 or better
General Paper Credit pass
Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English C or better
Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English C or better
German Abitur 3 or better in English in Year 11 or 12
Norway Vitnemal VG or better in English
