Primary Education
To nurture and inspire the young minds of the future is a noble calling, which shouldn't be undertaken lightly. Teaching is a professional activity involving the exercise of complex high level judgment. To reflect these professional needs, as a Murdoch student you will undertake: Professional Development Studies: observing and teaching in schools;
- Context Studies: learning about the place and role of education in society, and the constraints of context upon it;
- Process Studies: learning about the characteristics of learners, teaching-learning processes and how to evaluate them; and
- Curriculum Studies: which are concerned with the theory, practice and management of teaching/learning processes in classroom contexts, with particular reference to school learning areas.
Within Murdoch's Primary Education degree, you have the flexibility to choose to focus in a particular area of Primary Education. For instance, you may wish to develop a teaching minor or interest area such as Special Needs Education, Science Communication, Languages Other Than English LOTE, Early Childhood Education.
In particular, the Early Childhood Education minor qualifies students to teach in the kindergarten/pre-primary years, while the Special Needs Education minor enables students to work with children with special educational needs.
