Benefit from our close geographic presence to Asia

With Indonesia being a member of the G‐20, major economies and on target to become the world's 10th biggest economy by the end of this decade, knowing Indonesian will open greater employment prospects for you. The Indonesian major is designed to provide you with advanced skills in contemporary Indonesian language. Studying Indonesian will challenge your views and values, and encourage you to reflect upon your own culture and assumptions.

Boost your marketability with a combined degree or optional language

You can combine your Indonesian major with an Asian Studies major, with units that examine Asian history, culture and contemporary issues. If you wish to specialise in Indonesian, you can add an additional fourth year of study in Indonesia. This is undertaken through the national Australian Consortium for "In‐Country" Indonesian Studies (ACICIS) founded and hosted by Murdoch University.

Professional Accreditation

The National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters Ltd (NAATI) is the body responsible for setting and monitoring the standards for the translating and interpreting profession in Australia. Graduates in Indonesian wishing to work as interpreters or translators are encouraged to seek NAATI accreditation which requires further examination by NAATI.
