Forensic Biology and Toxicology
Here at Murdoch we offer the Bachelor of Forensics in Forensic Biology and Toxicology. This is also offered as a triple major, as a Bachelor of Forensics in Forensic Biology and a Toxicology and Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science and Molecular Biology which can also incorporate a Criminology minor.
There's a reason why those TV forensics shows are so popular. The application of science to the world of crime fighting is one of the most fascinating and effective areas of law enforcement.
As a Forensic Biology and Toxicology student you'll study the application of the techniques of molecular biology DNA profiling and analytical chemistry drug and alcohol analysis with a strong focus on the in-depth study of modern molecular genetics including practical training in the techniques of genetic analysis.
You will also gain experience in forensic pathology, forensic anthropology and forensic botany with an emphasis on the gathering of evidence and its presentation in court. You'll be given hands-on experience in modern analytical techniques associated with the detection of legal and illicit drugs and homicidal poisons including gas chromatography, HPLC, NMR and mass spectrometry.
The major also provides a thorough training in biochemistry, including aspects of drug metabolism, and incorporates case studies and examples from a wide range of forensic investigations which are supported by guest lectures from forensic science professionals.
