This major provides you with the necessary knowledge required to understand and manage the process of business feasibility studies, operational planning, business innovation as well as the development of business assets through the strategic application resources.

You'll have the opportunity to apply theoretical solutions to practical problems in small to medium enterprise business through both theoretical and practical learning.

This major is ideal for both commerce and non-business students if you are thinking of pursuing either general employment or self employment in the small to medium enterprise arena and is an ideal complement to degrees in Business Law, Information Technology and Legal Studies.

After studying the first year fundamentals of Management, Accounting and Marketing, you'll then be in a position to integrate the knowledge learnt through units of study based around the development of business plans that describe a new venture opportunity, its viability and management. Through practical learning in an individual or group capacity you'll be encouraged to seek out industry participation and to work in small groups to develop a viable business plan for the launch of a product or service.
Your studies will explore the cognitive, technical and behavioural requirements of entrepreneurs using case studies to illustrate the skills and competencies required for business success and innovation. Issues addressed will include: the business concept; business feasibility; sources of venture capital; the relevant legal framework; test marketing; accounting information systems and operational business planning.

Business feasibility and management concepts will introduce you to areas of feasibility and management planning activity. You'll consider business structures, legal and intellectual property issues, concepts of marketing, organisational and personnel behaviour and financial planning. Planning, feasibility, and research methods will be also considered from both an entrepreneurial and business perspective while incorporating a strong focus towards technology, commercialisation and related issues.
