Entry requirements
Advanced academic study, research preparation and professional experience are required for admission to the course. The entry requirements are the equivalent of a Bachelor of Education (or other relevant degree) with honours from a recognised university and at least two years of relevant professional experience.
Students who have a Master of Education degree by coursework or research will be considered on a case-by-case basis for credit. Students with a Master of Education by coursework degree may be asked to complete a small project as part of the first year of the Education Doctorate. At most students may be granted 16 points of credit; those who have a part-completed MEd will also be considered on a case-by-case basis and may be awarded credit on a pro rata basis, provided these studies were undertaken within the last 10 years. Despite the amount of credit which may be awarded for previous studies, students may be requested to enrol in up to 16 points of coursework at the 600-level, which their supervisor or the student considers to be advantageous either for professional development or for the completion of the dissertation. To count as credit towards the EdD, a student must normally pass the units at Credit level or above.
Candidates who do not meet the admission requirements may be offered a place in a preliminary course designed to prepare them for admission to the doctoral course. The specific studies to be completed within a preliminary course would be determined in each case by the School's Research and Postgraduate Studies Committee.
