GreenPower
Established in 1997, GreenPower is a national accreditation program setting stringent environmental and reporting standards for renewable electricity products offered by energy suppliers across Australia.
GreenPower aims to increase Australia’s capacity to produce environmentally friendly renewable electricity by driving demand for alternative energy generation.
In 2008 Murdoch University became the first university in Australia to sign a deal to use 15 per cent GreenPower, achieving the highest percentage use of nationally accredited renewable energy of any university in the country. Murdoch is also the largest organisation in Western Australia to use this amount of renewable energy, saving 3500 tonnes of CO2 being released into the atmosphere each year.
Murdoch University purchases its GreenPower from Synergy. In WA, Synergy's accredited GreenPower product is NaturalPower, sourced from windfarms in Albany and Emu Downs.
