Dr Jolyn Tan’s legacy

Veterinarian's family pave the way for students to follow in their daughter's footsteps.

The Dr Jolyn Tan Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Dr Jolyn Tan, an international Doctor of Veterinary Medicine student and young budding veterinarian. Tragically, her life was cut short when she was killed in a car accident while studying in Western Australia.

Her desire to care for animals and be a good veterinarian, her enthusiasm, her inquisitive nature, her joy, her smile, and her presence have touched different people in different ways. Jolyn was born in Singapore, received her Bachelor of Science (Veterinary Biology) and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Murdoch University.

To honour her memory, the Tan family established an endowed scholarship for fifth year international Doctor of Veterinary Medicine students. The scholarship promotes academic excellence and supports the education of aspiring veterinarians.

The recipients will go on to work for the well-being of animals just as Jolyn would have, a true legacy rippling out to make a difference in the community.

The 2023 recipient of the Dr Jolyn Tan Memorial Scholarship, Louise Wong, outlined the impact the scholarship is having on her academic journey.

“I strive to continue working and playing hard for the rest of my degree by seeking new learning opportunities, adopting a positive mindset and putting in my all into education so that I can work towards being a fulfilled veterinarian. I also appreciate the support as it relieves part of the financial burden I feel as an international veterinary student from Singapore,” she said.
