Special Collections commenced at the request of the inaugural University Librarian George Buick to document the growing issues of Aboriginal land rights, women’s rights and gay rights. These issues became a focus of the collection, which commenced in 1975 and was initially called The Alternative and Contemporary Documents Collection (ACDC). The current Special Collections are a continuation of this initiative.
