Thanks to the Murdoch Business School’s partnership with Activ, Master of Health Administration, Policy and Leadership student Linh Nguyen launched her career in the health sector, whilst studying and has shown no signs of slowing down since.
Established in 1951, Western Australia’s largest disability provider, Activ, has supported people with intellectual disability achieve independence. Today the organisation’s 1,350 staff support over 1,800 customers to reach their goals.
Since 2019, Murdoch Business School and Activ have worked together to enhance students’ understanding of the disability sector.
Students are able to gain access to industry experience and expertise, through leadership-focused units, industry-focused group projects and guest speakers – including Activ’s Executive Manager Transformation, Benjamin Jardine.
Working with Activ, students are encouraged to find solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing disability service providers, providing insight for both students and Activ alike.
The partnership has already inspired many future leaders, and in 2021 reached new heights when Linh Nguyen completed her Work Integrated Learning (WIL) placement with Activ, as part of her Master of Health Administration, Policy and Leadership course. This has led to her continuing onto full time employment with the Activ team.
Speaking to her placement experience, Linh said it has been an insightful journey.
I have had the opportunity to apply my knowledge and learn new skills every day.”
“I meet with my academic supervisor once every few weeks and receive a lot of support. My workplace supervisor and colleagues are also very supportive and helpful. Overall, it has been an invaluable experience," said Linh.
Before even completing her placement, she was offered a position as Project Delivery Officer within Activ’s Transformation Team.
Linh’s positive experience and exciting step ahead in her career speaks to the value of the real-world learning offered through the Activ and Murdoch Business School partnership.
