Large Animal & Farm Animal Specialty traineeship (12-18 months)

Embark on a rewarding career in large animal and farm animal medicine with our Large Animal/Production Animal Specialty clinical traineeship—a unique, hands-on program tailored for enthusiastic new or recent graduates. Over 12 to 18 months, you’ll gain invaluable experience working alongside leading experts in cattle, sheep, pigs, camelids, and equine care. Formerly known as an internship, this traineeship provides the flexibility to enrol in either a 12-month postgraduate diploma or an 18-month taught Masters, depending on your goals.

What sets our program apart is its immersive training structure, featuring monthly “deep dives” into critical industry topics, interactive journal clubs, case report presentations, and ongoing, mentored clinical practice. You’ll build your confidence and technical expertise in a supportive environment, preparing you for a successful future in large animal practice.

Large Animal residency program (duration: 3 years)

Are you an experienced large animal clinician seeking to advance your career and achieve specialist status in Farm Animal/Large Animal Medicine? Our Large Animal Residency Program at Murdoch University is designed specifically for professionals like you. Over a comprehensive three-year period, residents engage in an immersive curriculum tailored to mastering clinical reasoning, research methodologies, and scientific evaluation skills through enrolment in a specialised Masters program.

The residency supports credentialing for leading specialist boards, including the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, American College of Theriogenologists and the European College of Animal Welfare and Behaviour Management. Through rigorous training and mentorship, you’ll fulfill all requirements needed to pursue targeted Board exams and gain internationally recognized qualifications.
